Behind The Design: The Kenwell Project!

We’re beyond excited to finally reveal one of our biggest transformations yet — the Kenwell Project! This home has been over two years in the making, and we’ve poured so much heart, intention, and detail into every inch of the design. It’s a true reminder that good things take time, and the result is well worth the wait. Let’s deep dive into some behind-the-scenes work on how this project came about and how we developed the design to bring our client’s vision to life.

Every design journey has its own story, and the Kenwell Project was no exception. From the first mood boards to the final reveal, this home was a showcase of creativity, collaboration, and thoughtful design evolution.

Starting From Scratch:

Before the Kenwell home began to take shape, the project started with a blank slate. Since this was a total teardown, we were able to work closely with the architect and builder to shape the floor plan from the ground up. Early collaboration allowed us to make thoughtful adjustments to the layout, ensuring the home’s flow aligned not only with the builder’s requests but also with the way the future homeowners envisioned living in the space.

Refining room proportions, improving circulation, and reworking the kitchen layout all helped establish the right flow for the home. By prioritizing function from the start, we set a strong foundation for the design to take shape.

Below, you’ll see some of the before images that highlight just how much transformation went into bringing the Kenwell Project to life.

Concept Development

We began the Kenwell Project with a series of concept boards that captured the client’s vision of warm neutrals, timeless textures, and a modern yet inviting atmosphere. These boards gave us a clear roadmap to explore palettes, materials, and layouts, refining each detail until the design felt perfectly tailored to their lifestyle.

In collaboration with the builder, we introduced sleek matte finishes to bring a sense of understated luxury while balancing the warmth of natural textures. A key priority was also to showcase a massive custom chandelier at the staircase, a statement piece visible from the exterior and a dramatic focal point inside, setting the tone for the home’s modern elegance.

The mood boards and finish selections became a tangible way to bring the vision to life, pairing cabinetry tones with tile, flooring, and fixtures. Seeing these elements side by side allowed the client to fully visualize how each layer would connect, ensuring the final home felt cohesive, thoughtful, and elevated from every angle.

Sourcing the Details

One of the most exciting parts of the Kenwell Project was sourcing and selecting the finishes that would ultimately define the home. From tile and countertops to cabinetry finishes and hardware, each choice was made with intention, balancing aesthetics, function, and durability. Paint colors were carefully selected to complement the surrounding textures and tones, while decorative lighting added warmth, personality, and structure to each space. Together, these layers came together to create a home that feels cohesive, considered, and thoughtfully designed from start to finish.

Site Visits & Installations

As the Kenwell Project moved into the build phase, site visits became an essential part of the design process. Walking through the home in person allowed us to see how each space was taking shape and make thoughtful refinements along the way. From tile layouts and grout tones to cabinetry placement and lighting details, being on site helped ensure every design choice fit the home’s scale, light, and natural flow.

These visits also gave us the opportunity to collaborate closely with contractors, troubleshoot in real time, and make adjustments before small details turned into larger issues. Reviewing installations as they happened helped bridge the gap between drawings and execution, ensuring each element translated seamlessly from paper to reality and stayed true to the overall design vision.

Working on the Kenwell Project was both challenging and incredibly rewarding. As a complete teardown, there were plenty of moving parts, and juggling the process while I was pregnant added its own chaotic moments. Still, seeing the home come together, surpassing even what we had anticipated, made every step worth it. Collaborating closely with the builder, architect, and client to bring this vision to life was a reminder of why we love this work so much.

Now that the project is complete, we’re excited to share the finished spaces with you. You can view the full gallery of completed photos in our portfolio here and see how each design decision came together to create a home that is both functional and beautifully layered.
